A 20 minute exercise to help you tap into your personal possibilities

The sky is the limit! Have you ever heard that statement?  Do you believe it?

Just look at it.  No…really stop… and look at it… look up. It is simply amazing isn’t it? Do you see the vast amount of possibilities and infinite number of choices that are floating out in the ether’s for you right now…right this very second. Any one of which could change your life forever.

So…what are you waiting for?  Reach up…grab hold of what ever you are dreaming of and get ready to soar on your very own magic carpet ride!

What?!  You don’t see it?  Or maybe you think that dreaming and wishing are something only other people have time for…you have a life to live and bills to pay. My question is do you have at least 20 minutes?

Well…Then this post is definitely for you.  This weekend in honor of the new moon going into Leo,I want you to embrace all possibilities!  Are you reading this thinking I am nuts?  Or maybe your saying to yourself, how?

For many of us some where along the line we have allowed our dreams and aspirations to become buried.  Buried under what we feel we are obligated to.   I have a quick little exercise that I would like you to try.  It is designed to reignite the dreamer within you.
Below is a simple writing exercise, all you need is 20 minutes.

A 20 minute exercise

  1. Grab a pen, notebook or open a word document.
  2. Set a timer for 5 minutes.
  3. Now, write.  For 5 minutes write using the following prompt:
    “If I had all the time and money I needed, I would….”
  4. Set it aside.
  5. Now, set the timer for 5 minutes and write using this prompt:
    “It makes me happy when……”
  6. Set it aside.
  7. For the last 5 minutes, set the timer and write using this prompt.
    “I wish…”
  8.  Lastly; spend the last 5 minutes reviewing what you wrote.

Usually within the first minute or two we have used up all the conscious ideas available for the question.  It is in the minutes that precede that we actually start to uncover things we may have forgotten or have taken for granted.  It is also a time of panic for some. They feel as if they have run out of things….or don’t know where to look.  If this describes you, then the message is to slow down.  Stop thinking there are right and wrong answers.  Begin to give value to being able to enjoy the air you breathe or the butterfly you noticed flying by.

By using a prompt we are able to give our brain a task, and in giving our brain a task it allows us to also give it a chance to wander and be set free.

I started using prompts in seventh grade when I took my first creative writing class in Junior High.  It was the first time I really felt free in my writing.  Pressure was removed.  I did not have to dig deep and talk about how I felt or compile a focused well written story.  I was able to just ramble.  Write whatever came to mind.  I forget about this process a lot.  Especially when I get overly focused on a specific writing project or even when writing my blog.

I hope you will give it a go no matter if you consider yourself a writer or not!  Try and see what you discover about yourself.
